About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for running R&D-related experiments, services for clients, and routine quality control supporting the development and commercialization of our novel molecular diagnostic assays. The candidate will therefore have a critical role in performing assays according to good laboratory practice, by following protocols meticulously, ensuring quality throughout customer projects, and support development and verification processes. We expect the future Research Engineer at APLEX Bio to work closely with both the Product team and R&D team as the “beating-heart” of our molecular diagnostics laboratory and have keen eye for details, strong organizational and communication skills.
Organize and perform service projects, including data and results, in a structured way
Execute experiments with the highest degree of scientific rigor
Maintain plans and reach goals on time
Document and report experimental results
Ensure that handling of samples and reagents is done in safe way
Assist in risk management
Maintain equipment records and daily work logs
Track and update reagent inventory on a regular basis
Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments
We are looking for a candidate with exceptional experimental skills, a focused mindset, a passion for molecular biology lab work and obsessive attention to detail. The right person has the highest experimental standards and rigor and highly meticulous in experimental execution and documentation. You have a hands-on approach and enjoy spending significant time in the lab. The candidate fits into a start-up environment by being flexible and seeks to find efficient ways to reach goals and milestones. You have:
MSc or PhD degree in molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, or related fields
Minimum 2 years of experience working routinely with PCR-based assays
Minimum 2 years industry experience is an advantage
Experience with fluorescence microscopy is highly regarded
Experience with other nucleic amplification methods such as rolling-circle amplification is highly regarded
Experience with multiplexed detection of biomarkers (using methods and systems such as Luminex, Nanostring, Olink etc) and/or multiplex PCR is highly regarded
Strong laboratory skills and hands-on approach
Excellent ability to characterize and navigate complex problems to find solutions
A calm, rigorous and focused approach to experimental work is critical to succeed in this role
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
Permission to work in Sweden is required
Terms of Employment
This is a full-time salary position available immediately, with a 6 months probational period that can lead to full-time employment.
APLEX Bio, a Swedish start-up company founded in 2020, is developing and commercializing a next-generation hyperplex hpPCR technology for analysis of massive numbers of biomarkers. The technology enables applications from research to in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) and precision diagnostics. APLEX Bio is based in Stockholm at the Karolinska Institute (KI) campus and is part of KI Innovations.
